Phi Theta Kappa Announces New York Interim Regional Coordinator
Jackson, MS - Laurie Freeman, Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisor at Fulton-Montgomery
Community College in New York, has been appointed Interim Coordinator
for the New York Region by Phi Theta Kappa's Executive Director Rod A. Risley.
Each
of Phi Theta Kappa's 29 regions is directed by a Regional Coordinator who
is also an experienced chapter advisor. Regional Coordinators serve as
liaisons between Headquarters and the Phi Theta Kappa chapters and two-year
colleges in the region.
Freeman's appointment followed a review
of nominations submitted by advisors and college presidents in the region.
Freeman became advisor of the Alpha Alpha Upsilon Chapter at Fulton-Montgomery
Community College in 1999.
The chapter has been recognized
twice as a Top 100 Chapter in the Society, and Freeman is a recipient of the
Horizon Award for Advisors.
"Serving as Interim Regional Coordinator
provides noteworthy professional leadership opportunities and significant
exposure for the individual's college," Risley said.
"Freeman's
participation in Phi Theta Kappa's international conferences and programs
will position Fulton-Montgomery Community College in the educational
arena as an institution that is committed to providing students and faculty
with quality academic programming."
Phi Theta Kappa International
Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, is the oldest and largest honor
society in American higher education with 1,200 chapters on two-year and
community college campuses in all 50 of the United States, Canada, Germany,
the Republic of Palau, the British Virgin Islands and U.S. territorial
possessions. More than two million students have been inducted since its
founding in 1918, with approximately 100,000 students inducted annually.
