Noted Honors Educator Named Phi Theta Kappa's Director of Honors Programs
JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI - Susan Edwards, an experienced honors educator
and current faculty member from Cy-Fair College in Houston, Texas, has
accepted the position of Director of Honors Programs of
Phi Theta
Kappa, international honor society of the two-year college.
Edwards
holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in
history. She is currently in the dissertation stage of her doctoral program
in educational leadership and cultural studies and has taught a variety
of classes including western civilization, history, politics and economics,
and Phi Theta Kappa honors courses. She has had numerous articles published
and has presented at national education forums.
Edwards has
served Phi Theta Kappa as a chapter advisor for 15 years and has led two chapters,
including the 2006 Most Distinguished Chapter at Cy-Fair College. She
is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Committee and has served as a Seminar
Leader for many Phi Theta Kappa Honors Institutes. Edwards is also a former
chairman of the Association of Chapter Advisors, was named a Mosal Scholar
in 2002 and has been selected by CASE as the Texas Professor of the Year.

academic credentials and rich Phi Theta Kappa experience make her eminently
qualified to take our honors program to a new level of prominence in the community
college and higher education arena," said Phi Theta Kappa Executive Director
Rod Risley.
Edwards was elected Chapter Advisor Representative
on the Phi Theta Kappa Board of Directors during the Society's 2006 International
Convention in Seattle, a position she will resign due to the new appointment.
Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, headquartered
in Jackson, is the largest honor society in American higher education with
1,200 chapters on two-year and community college campuses in all 50 of the
United States, Canada, Germany, the Republic of Palau, the Marshall Islands,
Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates and U.S.
territorial possessions. More than two million students have been inducted
since its founding in 1918, with approximately 100,000 students inducted
annually.
