Texas Advisor Elected Secretary of Society's Association of Chapter Advisors
Jackson, MS - Larry Polk, a Phi Theta Kappa advisor and faculty member at
Richland College in Texas, was recently elected to serve as Secretary of
the Association
of Chapter Advisors (ACA) during the Society's 2008 International
Convention in Philadelphia.
The ACA is a non-dues paying organization
that meets annually during Convention.
ACA Officers assist in planning
the program for the annual ACA meeting and may be called upon to serve on various
committees and act as facilitators for advisor enrichment. The Officers
are also asked to give feedback to the Headquarters Staff on a variety of
Society issues and programs. Each ACA Officer serves a three-year term
beginning in the position of Secretary then advancing to Vice Chairman
and Chairman positions.
Following his one-year term as Secretary,
Polk will serve as ACA Vice Chairman and eventually Chairman.
Polk
has served the Society as a chapter advisor for 33 years, and served as Advisor
Representative on the Board of Directors from 1994-2000. He has served
as a Faculty Scholar, presenter for the Chapter Officer Leadership Academy
and facilitator for Advisor Roundtable Discussions during the International
Convention. Polk is also a certified instructor in the Leadership Development
Studies Program. He received the Distinguished Advisor Award in 2007 and
also in previous years.
Other 2008-09 ACA Officers are Rob Carey,
Pima Community College, Arizona, Chairman; and Paul Roscelli, Canada
College, California, Vice Chairman.
Phi Theta Kappa International
Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, is the largest
honor society in American higher education with 1,250 chapters on two-year
and community college campuses in all 50 of the United States, Canada, Germany,
the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated
States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates
and U.S. territorial possessions. More than two million students have
been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 100,000 students
inducted annually.
