Phi Theta Kappa Announces Appointments of Interim Coordinators in Four Regions
Jackson, MS - Dr. Jody Peterson, an associate professor of history and political
science at Centralia College in Washington; Cindy Armijo, an instructor
of criminal justice at Luna Community College in New Mexico; Michael Brown,
an instructor of instructional technology and graphic design at Southwest
Virginia Community College in Virginia; and Sheri Dunlavy, an assistant
professor of psychology at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana - Fort
Wayne; have been appointed Interim Coordinators for the Greater Northwest,
New Mexico, Virginia and Indiana Regions by Phi Theta Kappa's Executive
Director, Rod A. Risley.
Each of Phi Theta Kappa's 29 regions
is directed by a Regional Coordinator who is also an experienced chapter
advisor. Regional Coordinators facilitate the integral relationships
among chapters in the region, between Phi Theta Kappa and the chapters and
between the Society and the two-year colleges within the region.
The
appointments of Peterson, Armijo, Brown and Dunlavy followed a review
of nominations submitted by advisors and college presidents in their regions.
Dr. Peterson has served as Phi Theta Kappa advisor to the Iota Omega Chapter
at Centralia College in Centralia, Washington, for five years. Armijo
began serving as an advisor to the Beta Mu Nu Chapter at Luna Community College
in Las Vegas, New Mexico, in June 2003. Brown has served as an advisor of the
Upsilon Upsilon Chapter at Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands,
Virginia since 2001. Dunlavy has served as advisor of the Alpha Tau Xi Chapter
at Ivy Tech Community College in Fort Wayne since January 2006.
"Serving
as Interim Regional Coordinator provides significant professional leadership
opportunities and significant exposure for the individual's college,"
said Rod A. Risley, Phi Theta Kappa's Executive Director. "Education leaders
throughout the state will come to respect their leadership ability, as
we have at Phi Theta Kappa. Jody, Cindy, Mike and Sheri's participation
in Phi Theta Kappa's international conferences and programs will position
them in the educational arena as individuals who are committed to providing
students and faculty with quality academic programming."
Phi
Theta Kappa International Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi,
is the largest honor society in American higher education with 1,250 chapters
on two-year and community college campuses in all 50 of the United States,
Canada, Germany, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands,
the Federated States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United
Arab Emirates and U.S. territorial possessions. More than two million
students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately
100,000 students inducted annually.
