Kentucky Advisor Elected to Phi Theta Kappa Board of Directors
Jackson, MS - Dan Bailey, a Phi Theta Kappa advisor and faculty member at
Ashland Community and Technical College in Kentucky, was recently elected
Chapter Advisor Representative to Phi Theta Kappa's Board of Directors
during the Society's 2009 Convention in Grapevine, Texas.
The
Board of Directors is the governing body of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
The Board consists of the Executive Director, a two-year college administrator,
a faculty advisor, a regional coordinator, an alumnus, an international
honorary member and a student representative. The Board of Directors serves
as the fiduciary trustee for the organization, establishes policy, charts
strategic direction for the organization and ensures that the organization's
mission to nurture academic excellence among two-year college students
is reflected in all Society programs and endeavors.
Bailey
was elected to a three-year term on the Board. He has served the Society as
a chapter advisor for 15 years and as advisor for the Kentucky Alumni Association
since 2001. He is a certified instructor in the Society's Leadership Development
Studies Program and was Chair of the Association of Chapter Advisors in
2006-2007. Bailey has served as a Faculty Scholar for several Phi Theta
Kappa Honors Institutes and received the Distinguished Advisor Award
in 2000 and 2007. He has also served as facilitator for the Chapter Officer
Academy, the Advisor Pre-Conference, and as a presenter for numerous Educational
Forums at International Conventions.
"Dan Bailey brings to
the Board a broad range of experience, having served in many leadership
roles in Phi Theta Kappa," said Rod Risley, Executive Director. "We look
forward to his contribution to the work of the Board."

2009-2010 Board Members include Everett C. "Kip" Johnson, attorney and
alumnus, Chair; Dr. George Boggs, President and CEO of the American Association
of Community Colleges, Vice Chair; Executive Director Rod Risley, Ex-Officio,
Secretary; Dr. Mary Hood, Texas Regional Coordinator; and Edgar Romero,
International President, Interim Student Representative.
Phi
Theta Kappa Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, is
the largest honor society in American higher education with 1,250 chapters
on college campuses in all 50 of the United States, Canada, Germany, the
Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated
States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates
and U.S. territorial possessions. More than two million students have
been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 100,000 students
inducted annually.
