30 Phi Theta Kappa Members Receive Leaders of Promise Scholarships
JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI - Thirty Phi Theta Kappa members from 21 states have
been named recipients of the 2009 Phi Theta Kappa Leaders of Promise Scholarships.
All scholars receive scholarships of $1,000 to further their associate
degree studies.
The Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program
provides new Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources to help defray
educational expenses while enrolled at a two-year college. The program
also provides opportunities and encourages students to assume leadership
roles by participating in Society programs.
"The Leaders of
Promise Scholarship funds provided represent an investment in human potential,"
explained Rod A. Risley, Phi Theta Kappa Executive Director. "Our objective
is to provide the resources and programs that will result in the emergence
of strong moral servant leaders."
The GEICO Scholarship recognizes
the two top scoring Leaders of Promise applicants who are declared business
majors. Each recipient receives a $1,000 scholarship. The GEICO Scholarship,
provided by Geico Insurance, is being offered for the first time in 2009.
The GEICO Scholarship recipients are Oyunjargal Khishigdorj, College
of Southern Nevada, and Jonathan Leon, Wake Technical Community College,
North Carolina.
"We are delighted that GEICO is providing scholarship
funds to recognize the future business leaders in Phi Theta Kappa," Risley
said. "This new scholarship will provide more financial assistance to
deserving students, and also indicates an increased level of respect and
confidence in the Phi Theta Kappa Experience."
