GRAPEVINE, TX- Keep Grapevine Beautiful and Phi Theta Kappa were honored
December 4, 2009 at this year's annual Keep America Beautiful National
Conference for outstanding community beautification program.
The
56th Annual Keep America Beautiful National Conference, held in Washington,

to share best practices and celebrate the successes of the last 12 months.
The Keep America Beautiful Affiliate Awards are open to all Keep America
Beautiful affiliates for program activities during the 12-month period
from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009. The honored affiliates encourage
individuals to make simple daily choices and to engage in volunteer activities
that improve their communities and the local environment.
Keep
Grapevine Beautiful along with Phi Theta Kappa's Honors in Action Academy
took first place in their category for the beautification of Rockledge
Park. In partnership with Phi Theta Kappa and the Honors in Action Academy,
Keep Grapevine Beautiful accelerated the completion of improvements
the park needed and saved thousands of dollars in labor due to their volunteer
efforts. The Honors in Action Academy took place on April 15, 2009 prior
to Phi Theta Kappa's Annual Convention, held in Grapevine, TX.
Today,
thousands of citizens visit the park as a safe and clean place. The park is
now used more frequently for community events, such as firework shows,
corporate gatherings and family reunions, and an "adopt-an-area" agreement
has been initiated for the pavilion area.
