Illinois Chapter Encourages Growth among New Members
The
Nu Lambda Chapter at Harry S Truman College in Illinois
presents small Bamboo plants decorated with blue ribbon and gold paper
to new members at induction ceremonies every semester to encourage growth
within the chapter and Phi Theta Kappa. Small notes are attached to the plants
to inspire new members. "The lucky bamboo symbolizes your growth throughout
your journey in Phi Theta Kappa. Each part of the bamboo represents Phi Theta
Kappa. The water represents Truman College. The roots represent Fellowship.
The stem represents Leadership. The branches represent Service and the
leaves represent Scholarship. We hope that you too will grow and branch
upwards with us. Welcome to Phi Theta Kappa." Nearly 40 new members receive
the small token each semester. Good work, Nu Lambda!
North
Carolina Chapter Walks for a Cause
The Beta Eta Delta Chapter
at Catawaba Valley Community College in North Carolina
recently conducted their 1st Annual Walk in support of the organization
Women for Women International, an organization that aids women in war-torn
Congo. The walk was organized by several members of the Seeds of Service
club who are also advisors and members of Phi Theta Kappa. The project was
promoted in local newspaper, radio and local magazines. Fliers were also
posted on campus and in the community. Volunteers were on site to register
and sign in participants, hand out water donated by a local company, and
provide encouragement. The local Police Department provided security
for the walk. Over 100 people participated in the walk and over $4,000 was
raised. Fantastic job, Beta Eta Delta!
Texas Chapter Sees
Results with Phone-a-thon
The Alpha Omega Omega Chapter at Texas
State Technical College-Waco Campus in Texas recently conducted
a phone-a-thon. The chapter downloaded information on conducting a phone-a-thon
on the Phi Theta Kappa website and presented the idea to their college administration.
Once the chapter received approval, members sent a campus wide e-mail asking
for volunteers, developed a phone script to suit their needs, located phones
on campus and began calling prospective members. Snacks and water were
provided for members and volunteers. The event was a success with nearly
500 prospective members contacted and informed about accepting membership
into Phi Theta Kappa. As a result the chapter also reached Pinnacle status
for the first time in 3 years. Outstanding, Alpha Omega Omega!
