Leadership Lesson: Increasing Membership Acceptance

Inviting eligible students, conducting orientations and planning the induction ceremony is serious business for your chapter, but it does not have to be seriously stressful. Follow these simple guidelines to increase membership acceptance and reach your chapter's Pinnacle Award goal!

Make the Most of Orientation
Orientation is the best time to explain Phi Theta Kappa membership benefits and show your chapter's enthusiasm. Let potential members see your excitement by conducting an upbeat information session. Take advantage of the numerous membership acceptance campaign resources available to your chapter on the Phi Theta Kappa website. Materials such as the Chapter Resource DVD and newly designed Member Benefits Brochure and Membership Campaign Posters will help you create a professional and informative meeting.

Phone-a-thons Guaranteed to Increase Membership
Try a chapter Phone-a-thon! This simple strategy is a proven method of engaging new members. Gather your members together for an evening of one-on-one contact with prospective inductees via the telephone. Far too often prospective members are simply unfamiliar with Phi Theta Kappa. A phone call from a fellow student is a great way to relay the benefits of membership in a more personal way than a brochure or letter. Get a sample Phone-a-thon script online.

Make a Good First Impression
The impression that your chapter makes on potential members throughout the year will influence their desire to accept membership at a later time. Encouraging chapter members to wear Phi Theta Kappa clothing around campus will help spread the Society name throughout your school. Demonstrate your chapter's spirit at every event you participate in on campus and around the community. Don't let a lack of visibility stand between your chapter and increasing membership acceptance success!
