Arizona Chapter Bags Opportunity to Educate and Give Back
The
Beta Epsilon Psi Chapter at Mid-South Community College in Arizona
recently joined forces with their local Wal-Mart to raise recycling awareness.
Through Wal-Mart's initiative, Kids' Recycling Challenge, which encourages
elementary schools in selected states to learn about the importance of
conservation, the chapter is collecting plastic bags in their community.
For each large collection bag full of plastic bags, Wal-Mart will donate
$5 to a local elementary school. The chapter has promoted the program by
placing a large collection bin on campus. To date, they have raised $40 and
the chapter plans to continue the project throughout the summer and next
year. Good work, Beta Epsilon Psi!
Alabama Chapters Help
Local Tornado Victims
The Alpha Beta Eta Chapter at Lurleen
B. Wallace Community College and the Tau Mu Chapter at Enterprise-Ozark
Community College in Alabama lended a helping hand after a
F3 tornado devastated the town of Enterprise. With a trail of destruction
left behind, the Alpha Beta Eta Chapter contacted the Tau Mu Chapter to unite
in helping residents put the pieces back together. Members of both chapters
were notified through e-mail, word of mouth, and flyers on campus. A local
radio station was also contacted to extend an invitation to join in on their
efforts. With rakes, chainsaws, shovels and protective gear in hand, the
two chapters removed debris from the homes of elderly residents who were
unable to perform the manual labor single-handedly. Outstanding teamwork,
Alpha Beta Eta and Tau Mu!
Texas Chapter Sends Support to
Virginia Tech
The Pi Chi Chapter at McLennan Community College
in Texas continues to express their sympathy for the tragic events
that took place on the Virginia Tech campus. As a show of support and camaraderie,
chapter members invited their campus to participate in Maroon and Orange
Effect Day at the annual Highland Game day. Throughout the day, hundreds
of students stood in line to sign sympathy cards that were later sent to the
Virginia Tech community. A moment of silence was followed by the playing
of taps by a student. Good work, Pi Chi!
