Phi Theta Kappa membership is "good as gold" - and during the week of November
12-16, chapters are encouraged to plan events to raise awareness of the
Society and its programs on campus and in the community. Each day of Good
as Gold Week has been designated to highlight a Phi Theta Kappa
Hallmark or initiative, including scholarship, service, civic engagement
and leadership.
Monday, November 12: Show Your Appreciation
Recognize
your chapter advisors, college administrators, faculty and staff for
supporting your chapter, Phi Theta Kappa's mission, and your college.
Plan an activity or event that focuses the attention on the faculty and staff
that make a difference at your college. And while you have them together,
be sure to increase awareness of the opportunities Phi Theta Kappa has to
offer by distributing copies of the Faculty
Awareness Flyer.
Tuesday, November 13: Encourage
Scholarship
Recognizing and encouraging scholarship is Phi
Theta Kappa's mission. To provide opportunities for intellectual growth,
invite your entire campus to view the fourth Honors
Satellite Seminar, and plan a moderated discussion following
the live viewing.
Wednesday, November 14: Serve Your Community
Plan
an activity that continues your chapter's commitment to the International
Service Program, Operation Green: Improving Our Communities
- a partnership with Keep
America Beautiful.
Possible ideas include planting trees, hosting a recycling collection,
a community beautification activity, or litter prevention education.
Thursday,
November 15: Advance Education
Phi Theta Kappa develops scholarships
for members enrolled in associate and baccalaureate degree programs.
To promote these opportunities, host a college fair on your campus, highlighting
four-year institutions offering Phi Theta Kappa transfer
scholarships. Set up a special table offering information about
Society membership
benefits and other Phi Theta Kappa scholarships, including the
Guistwhite
Scholars, Leaders
of Promise and the All-USA
Academic Team and All-State
Academic Team programs.
Friday, November 16:
Develop Leadership
Create opportunities by organizing a leadership
development workshop for all club and organization officers on your campus.
Invite a certified Phi Theta Kappa Leadership
Development Studies instructor to facilitate or utilize Phi
Theta Kappa's online resources
to plan the event.
Monday, November 19: Let the Celebration
Begin!
Join in one of the Society's oldest traditions by celebrating
Founders
Day. Host a party in a high-traffic area on campus, and decorate
with a Phi Theta Kappa banner, chapter photos, and blue and gold balloons.
Advertise your plans and appoint an event photographer. Invite all members
to wear their Phi Theta Kappa pins and shirts for the day. Have Member Benefit
Brochures available for students who are interested in membership, and
remember - nothing will attract a crowd like free birthday cake for everyone!
