California Chapters Organize Honors in Action Contests

Two California chapters have organized Honors in Action projects that focus on the Honors Study Topic, The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges, and Consequences, and offer opportunities for members and others to share their research via written and photo essays. The Butte College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa organized the International Essay Contest, "Affluence and Sustainability: An American Paradox," to highlight the connection between the 2008-2010 Honors Study Topic and the International Service Program, Operation Green: Improving Our Communities. A total of $600 in prizes will be shared among the three finalists and the chapters they represent. The deadline is September 30. Check out the complete rules online. The Sacramento City College chapter has organized a photo essay contest to help members and chapters begin an in-depth exploration of the Honors Study Topic and afford them the opportunity to use work on the photo/essay as a springboard to forming partnerships between members and non-members on campus and in the community. The chapter will award a total of $450 in prizes to winning members and chapters. To learn more about the photo/essay contest before the November 19 deadline visit the contest website or contact the chapter by email.
