Opening Honors Seminar Draws Praise from Participants

Phi Theta Kappa's first Honors Seminar, featuring Dr. Richard Heinzl, founder of Doctors without Borders Canada, has received an enthusiastic response from viewers. "It was, of course, excellent," said chapter advisor Debra Swedberg of Casper College in Wyoming. Attendees for the live seminar presentation at Casper College included a Radiation Technology faculty member who is planning to provide service learning opportunities for his students. "This presentation helped him see some of the options he will pursue," Swedberg added. At Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, Phi Theta Kappa members may receive one hour of college humanities credit by viewing all four presentations, completing a paper and participating in the Kansas Region Honors Institute, said advisor Linda McFate. Don't miss the second Honors Seminar on October 7, featuring Dr. Raquel Rivera Pinderhughes' presentation on green collar jobs as a way out of poverty, and the scholar's responsibility to make a difference through service. Subscription information for the live seminars and for the video downloads is available online.
