"The positive energy
that drives the International Convention is amazing... infectious... contagious!
The only cure is to take it home and share it with your chapter."
Ken Gallagher, Chapter President "The Convention is fun...it is such a joy. I would not be the advisor I am today if
I had not used the International Convention as a tool to learn."
Diane Hipsher, Advisor "The Officer Academy provides an excellent opportunity for
officers to learn and grow. A Phi Theta Kappa International Convention is an opportunity
that you do not want to miss."
Karan Pittman, Advisor "My members re-energize with the Educational Forums and love the
opportunities to learn techniques and strategies from other successful
chapters. I love to come and see all that energy!"
Maryjane Giesler, Advisor Minneapolis, Minnesota,
one of the most unique cities in America, will be the destination for some
3,800 Phi Theta Kappa members, advisors and administrators next year, when
the Society's 86th International Convention takes place April 1-3.
All General Sessions, the Academic Marketplace, Educational Forums, the Transfer
College Fair, Regional Meetings, dances and the Hallmark Awards Banquets will
take place in the Convention Center in the historic downtown area.
Delegates staying in the official Convention hotels, the Hilton Minneapolis and
the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, will stay warm and protected from the Minnesota
chill as they walk to and from the Convention Center using the fully enclosed
skyway system.
Prior to the official opening of the Convention, advisors, regional officers
and chapter officers are invited to register for pre-Convention conferences
providing in-depth instruction in Phi Theta Kappa programs for Society leaders.
The Convention officially begins at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 1, with the first
two rounds of Educational Forums. Over 50 Forums will be offered at the
Convention. The Forums will give delegates ideas for chapter and personal
development including the implementation of Society programs, motivating
members, fundraising, the development of leadership skills, applying for
scholarships and much more.
New this year, Advisor Roundtable Sessions offer specialized forums for
advisors to connect and share ideas and experiences.
The Sessions will occur at the same time as the Educational Forums.
Watch for surprises at the Opening Ceremonies, where the 2003-04 International
Officers will be introduced, and all chapters in attendance will be recognized
in the Flag Ceremony and Roll Call of States. The Opening Ceremonies begin
Thursday at 7:00 pm.
The Convention's opening day concludes with the 9:30 pm Political Rally, which
showcases 2004-05 International Officer Candidates, senior colleges and universities
that sponsor Convention events and the special attractions in the Academic
Marketplace.
Friday features two additional rounds of Educational Forums, at 8:15 am and
2:00 pm, the Second General Session at 10:00 am, and the Third General Session
at 4:00 pm. First round balloting for International Officer candidates will be
held in the morning, and results will be announced that evening.
After the Fourth General Session delegates will have free time to explore the
many attractions of Minneapolis and its Twin City, St. Paul.
On Saturday, April 3, the Fourth General Session at 9:30 am will be followed by
the Transfer College Fair and the final round of balloting to elect the 2004-05
International President and four Vice Presidents.
The Hallmark Awards Banquets begin at 5:00 pm, followed by the Awards Gala at
7:30 pm. The Convention concludes with the naming of the Society's Most Distinguished
Chapter and installation of new International Officers, followed by a farewell dance.
Convention registration forms and hotel reservation forms will be mailed to all
chapter advisors, chapter and regional officers and college presidents in early
December, and will also be available to be downloaded from the Convention website.
