Phi Theta Kappa
Voices
Phi Theta Kappa constituents give personal voices to hot topics
Nicholeen Frusti
President, Northwestern Michigan College, Traverse City, Michigan
Fundraising
"We collect aluminum cans and recycle them as a fundraiser. Members bring
their cans to our office, and, once per week, we redeem them for cash.
During a financial crunch, this project raised enough money to pay
registration fees and lodging for four officers to attend a conference."
Jackie Gipson
Treasurer, Palm Beach Community College, Eissey Campus, Florida
International Service Program
"To increase breast cancer awareness at our college, our chapter invited a representative from the local American Cancer Society office
to join members as we distributed informational brochures and pink ribbons on campus. By the end of the day, everyone was wearing
a pink ribbon - even the guys!"
Liz Medina
Phi Theta Kappa Alumna, Century College,
White Bear Lake, Minnesota
Membership Benefits
"While attending Century College, I served as Phi Theta Kappa chapter president. After graduating,
I completed a summer research program at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in
New York. I am now a first year medical student at Harvard Medical School.
Phi Theta Kappa was a strong influence in my life and was an incredible support
system throughout my college career. Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of
such an amazing organization."
Andi Vaught
Ohio Regional President, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio
Regional Officer Experience
"My best experience as a regional officer was the 2003 Phi Theta Kappa Indiana,
Ohio, Kentucky Day of Fellowship at Paramount's Kings Island.
I have never been a part of planning something so huge and so successful."
Dawn Evinger
President, MiraCosta College, Oceanside, California
Increasing Member Participation
"Just before fall classes began, we held a planning session for all the
members - and a neat thing happened - even those who were unable to attend
sent ideas! Of course we could not do everything, but we got an idea of
where the chapter wanted to go. This helped us plan events that interest
our members and has resulted in increased membership participation." Let your voice be heard! Send us your comments on
chapter programs implemented by your chapter at chapter.programs@ptk.org.
