Good As Gold Week
Celebrate Excellence
"The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students…."
Those words from the Phi Theta Kappa Constitution resonate through the halls of community colleges today louder than ever. For 87 years, two-year college students have been able to take advantage of the benefits of membership in the largest honor society in higher education, benefits that transcend a notation on university applications or resumes.
Since its inception, Phi Theta Kappa has not only recognized scholarship, but also rewarded scholarship of twoyear college students through various scholarship assistance programs for continuing education at both two-year and four-year institutions. In order to qualify, eligible students only have to accept Phi Theta Kappa membership.
Surveys have shown that when eligible students are aware of Phi Theta Kappa member benefits, they are much more likely to accept the membership invitation. Good as Gold is Phi Theta Kappa's visibility campaign, designed to highlight the benefits of Society membership. Resources include the New Member Orientation PowerPoint, Chapter Resource DVD, Good as Gold Posters, and Good as Gold Member Recruitment Video.
In addition to recognizing and encouraging scholarship of eligible students, chapters increasing their visibility on campus can qualify for recognition in Phi Theta Kappa programs. Chapters informing students of membership benefits, thereby increasing membership acceptance at their college, are eligible to earn a $100 scholarship through the Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program. This fall, chapters may even receive a complimentary International Convention registration as part of the program's new Pinnacle Platinum Award.
To help chapters increase their visibility on campus, attain their Pinnacle Program goals and promote chapter programs and activities, the third week of November has been designated Good as Gold Week. Think of it as a "Spirit Week" for chapters to share their excitement about Phi Theta Kappa and spread the word about the Society on their campus.
Throughout the week, members from across the Society will join together to participate in special programming, highlighting the benefits of membership, our commitment to civic engagement, and the Phi Theta Kappa Hallmarks of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship. Good as Gold Week will culminate in a celebration on Friday, November 18, as chapters observe the 87th Phi Theta Kappa Founders Day (November 19). Watch the website for information on Good as Gold Week promotions, give-a-ways and discounts, and get the word out to your campus about the golden opportunities of Phi Theta Kappa membership!
