Self-Paced Participation Puts Your Chapter in Control
Because of the non-competitive nature of the Five Star Chapter Development Program, chapters can develop at their own pace. Each chapter sets its own goals in the program, reports its progress throughout the year, and earns recognition at their Regional Convention for achieving those goals.

A chapter's advisors, officers and members have arrived early to get the best seats possible for the regional awards ceremony. The excitement level is high - the Five Star award presentations about to begin! The chapter's members and officers have worked countless hours conducting chapter business, planning events and coordinating Service and Honors Program activities. Through the year, it has grown both in the number of members inducted and in experience in working with other organizations on campus and in the community. The chapter has reached a new level of success through the Five Star Program and now its deserved recognition is only moments away…

Wouldn't it be a shame for this chapter to miss out on recognition because one simple task of reporting its progress had been overlooked? Don't let that happen to your chapter! In the new Five Star Chapter Development Program, chapter presidents or advisors can submit the required forms online, and advisors always receive confirmation of all forms submitted by the chapter. A chapter's level of achievement for the 2005 Five Star Program - and the corresponding recognition it receives - is based on the Final Update Form, due on or before February 3, 2006.

Since the program has changed in the last year, chapters can take advantage of special flexibility in the 2005 Five Star Program deadlines. For example, chapters that did not submit the Chapter Goal Form by the March 1 deadline may submit the form now at www.ptk.org/FiveStar/goalsignin.go. If a chapter has not yet completed the Chapter Update Form due April 30, it can be completed at www.ptk.org/FiveStar/signin.go. The three remaining Chapter Update Form reporting deadlines for the 2005 program are September 30, November 30 and February 3, 2006. Please note, however, that the Final Update Form deadline (February 3, 2006) is not flexible. Chapters will only be recognized for their reported achievements as of this date.

David Elder, Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisor at McHenry Community College in Illinois, credits the Five Star Chapter Development Program with his chapter's success in implementing programs and gaining administrative support. "Our chapter started participating in the program in 1996, and immediately started becoming more engaged in international and regional programs and events. The Five Star Program is the premier program for chapter development, and the College Project requirement has given us a wonderful opportunity to get our college president involved with the chapter."

The Five Star Program can also make a substantial impact at the regional level. Mississippi/Louisiana Regional Coordinator Norma Hammill says, "The strength of a region is dependent upon the strength of individual chapters within the region. Strengthening chapters also strengthens the region, and, in turn, the Society as a whole. The Five Star Program is a tool to measure the progress of chapters individually and on the regional level."

Get the recognition your chapter deserves. Submit the Chapter Goal Form and Chapter Update Forms online now, and get ready for your chapter's name to be called during your regional awards ceremony!

Breaking News!
Five Star Program Update

The Five Star Chapter Development Program is designed as a building tool for chapter development. Participation in the program should move from basic chapter management in Level One, to involvement in regional and international events in Level Five. In order to better reflect this progression through the program year, the following important update has been made to the Five Star Program requirements.

The fourth requirement at LEVEL FIVE was: "Your chapter enters at least five 2005 International Hallmark Awards (Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship and at least one individual category)."

However, 2005 Hallmark Awards entries were based on activities completed primarily in 2004, while 2006 entries will reflect a chapter's accomplishments from January to December 2005 - the time frame of the 2005 Five Star Program.

Therefore, this Five Star Program requirement has been updated as follows:

"Your chapter enters at least five 2005 Hallmark Award categories, or at least four 2006 Hallmark Award categories (Scholarship, Leadership and Service and at least one individual category)."

This means either 2005 or 2006 Hallmark Award entries may fulfill this requirement of the 2005 Five Star Chapter Development Program. The update allows chapters who did not compete in the 2005 Hallmark Awards competition to still achieve the Five Star Level and be recognized during their Spring 2006 regional meetings.

The updated requirement is reflected on the Chapter Update Form, available at www.ptk.org/FiveStar/signin.go.
