On the Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program:
"By increasing our chapter's visibility on campus, we have received the Pinnacle Silver Award for two consecutive years. Members wear their Phi Theta Kappa T-shirts every Tuesday, our regular meeting day. The chapter has also reached many students by maintaining a bulletin board of popular culture displays, chapter photos and event information on campus. We hope to achieve our Pinnacle Goal and become a Pinnacle Gold Chapter this year!"

On the Five Star Chapter Development Program:
"Our chapter has succeeded in the Five Star Chapter Development Program by volunteering for all college functions and participating in the Satellite Seminars. We are also participating in Relay For Life for the American Cancer Society. The Relay event is our College Project, combining our efforts for the Five Star Program with the International Service Program."

On Nota Bene:
"I entered the Nota Bene competition during my last semester at community college, and am now entering my senior year at Old Dominion University, where I am enrolled in the accelerated master's program. I also plan to go on for a Ph.D. in English Literature. I am honored to have my poem published in this prestigious anthology. The news was unexpected and at the same time validating. I'm still walking on clouds!"

Phyllis Bessenaire
Vice President of Finance
Fresno City College, Fresno, California

On Founders Day:
"Last year on Founders Day, we held our fall induction ceremony, where I spoke on the history of Phi Theta Kappa. Being inducted on Founders Day really made an impression on the new members. It gave them an instant tie to the organization and a glimpse into being part of something very much larger than they realized. It is always good to let new members know what they are doing is very important. It generates pride and loyalty."
