Honors Satellite Seminar Series: A POWERful Opportunity
The 2006 Honors Satellite Seminar Series will be underway very soon. The Series is a powerful opportunity for your chapter to explore the 2006-08 Honors Study Topic, Gold, Gods, and Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power. As you explore the Topic, you can implement the Scholarship, Leadership, and Fellowship Hallmarks, fulfill your Five Star Requirements, and have powerful fun!
The Honors Satellite Seminars are more than just another lecture series. Each seminar is an opportunity to learn for the sake of learning, to explore ideas foreign to your own, to escape the restrictions of learning in a controlled classroom environment, and to speak out on issues that are relevant to your life. In short, the Satellite Seminars provide an opportunity for scholastic investigation, learning, and the sharing of information - key elements of the Scholarship Hallmark.
The Seminars allow chapters to implement the Leadership Hallmark of Phi Theta Kappa.- Use the Satellite Seminars as a team-building exercise. In planning to host the Satellite Seminars your team may go through periods of forming (team members get to know each other), storming (team members work out their differences), norming (team members set aside personal goals in exchange for team goals) and performing (individuals have to come together as a team, and the team is ready for the task at hand). Y our team may set rules of operation and interaction, and define roles for each group member.
- When hosting the Satellite Seminar Series on your campus, lead through goal-setting. Regardless of your chapter or college's purpose for hosting the Satellite Seminar Series, goal-setting is an excellent way to ensure your purpose is achieved. - If presented with obstacles in the planning process, take a rational approach to problem-solving, and think outside the box when determining solutions to problems. Be creative in your decision-making.
- When planning to host the Satellite Seminar Series, delegate tasks and empower chapter members to implement strategies that will improve the experience for all attendees.

- Organize a fun ice-breaker before the seminar to help your audience members get to know each other and to facilitate dialogue.

In addition to helping your chapter reach your goals in the Scholarship, Leadership, and Fellowship Hallmarks, you can use the Satellite Seminars to fulfill the requirements to become a Five Star Chapter.
