Scholarship Opportunities Just For You!

Applications for two Phi Theta Kappa scholarship programs will be available by the first week in October. Although the All-USA Academic Team and the Guistwhite Scholarships have the same deadline and similar applications, eligibility requirements differ. All-USA Academic Team

Eligibility Requirements: Students should expect to receive an associate degree between December 1, 2006, and August 31, 2007, or plan to transfer to a four-year university. A minimum of 45 credits by 12/1/06 and 53 credits by 8/31/07 are required. Students must have a minimum of 30 credits over the past 5 years and a minimum GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 grading scale.

Application Procedures: Students must be nominated by the All-USA contact person on their campus (generally the college president) in order to apply. Only two students per campus may be nominated. Applications may be obtained through the campus All-USA contact in early October. Information on applications may be released publicly through the media.

Recognition: Three teams of 20 students each will be featured in a full-page article in USA TODAY. The top 20 students are named to the First Team, and receive a $2,500 stipend and recognition at the Presidents Breakfast during the American Association of Community Colleges Convention in Tampa, Florida, on April 16, 2007. The top-scoring student from each state is named a New Century Scholar and receives a $2,000 stipend funded by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and the Coca-Cola Foundation. New Century Scholars will represent their state at the Opening Session of the AACC Convention on April 14, 2007.

Guistwhite Scholarships

Eligibility Requirements: Students should expect to receive an associate degree between December 1, 2006, and August 31, 2007, or plan to transfer to a four-year university by fall of 2007. A minimum of 45 credits by 12/1/06 and 53 credits by 8/31/07 are required. Students must have a minimum of 30 credits over the past 5 years and a minimum GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 grading scale. Students must enroll in a minimum of six semester hours at a four-year institution in 2007.

Recognition: Twenty Guistwhite Scholars will receive $5,000 for baccalaureate degree studies and be recognized on stage during Phi Theta Kappa's 2007 International Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, April 12-14.
