Mission Possible!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to gain admission into the senior institution of your choice.

Chances are good that many of you reading this article plan to transfer to a senior institution. The transfer process can be a challenging undertaking and sometimes even seem impossible. Don't despair. With a little effort and organization, the transfer process may be easier than you think. Here are a few tips to make your transfer process a smooth one.

  • Start early. That old saying, "The early bird catches the worm" applies to senior institution admission as well. The student who applies early has a greater chance of attending his or her preferred college or university.

  • Apply to many schools. By applying to a number of schools, you leave yourself options from which to choose, even if your first choice falls through.

  • Meet deadlines. There are probably hundreds of other students out there who want to get into the same school that you do. Missing deadlines opens the door for another student to take your place.

  • Visit the campus. The more you know about the senior institution, the easier your transfer decisions will become.

  • Keep correspondence with your prospective senior institution, making sure that your information is easily accessible and well organized.

  • Complete the FAFSA, once you choose a senior institution, in order to be considered for all available financial aid. The deadline is June 30, 2004.

  • Attend the orientation. Since many universities register students at orientations, attending an early orientation will allow you a broad selection of classes from which to choose.
