Communities to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and raise
funds to eliminate cancer. In 2003, Phi Theta Kappa raised more money than any other organization
through Relay For LifeŽ - more than $260,000! Phi Theta Kappa's total
fundraising for the American Cancer Society, including other fundraisers
like Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, totaled $344,244! "The American Cancer Society is so pleased with the outstanding work of Phi
Theta Kappa in the International Service Program," said ACS official Kristen
Solt, who coordinates efforts between Phi Theta Kappa and the American
Cancer Society. "Chapters across the country have shown us that they are
innovative and professional in delivering ACS programs and have taken Relay
For Life to new levels." Continuing the Fight Phi Theta Kappa's collaboration with the American Cancer Society has only just
begun. Due to the overwhelming response by Society members and the greatness
of our task, Phi Theta Kappa will be extending our partnership with the
American Cancer Society for another two years! The 2004-06 International
Service Program will be "Conquering Cancer: Continuing the Fight!" More
details about the Service Program will be unveiled at the 2004 International
Convention in Minneapolis, and in the 2004-06 Program Guide to be sent to
all chapter advisors and chapter presidents in April. Fundraising Online! The American Cancer Society is now offering a fun way to help raise money for
Relay For LifeŽ online! You can create your own online community, including
your own web page within the site. Log on to www.cancer.org to see if your
city is participating and use this online tool to send emails to friends
and family to raise money. You can put your chapter's picture and
information up on your website ... and watch the donations roll in! Report Your Relay Activities! So that we can measure our total impact in the fight against cancer, it is critical
that every chapter participating in Relay For Life submit a brief report form to
Phi Theta Kappa Headquarters. Keep track of the number of members participating,
the number of hours spent planning and participating in the event, and the amount
of funds raised by your Phi Theta Kappa team. Once your Relay event is finished, complete the online Relay
For Life Report Form at www.ptk.org/service/relayform.htm. All Relay Report Forms
must be submitted by September 15, 2004!
