Speakers Will Ignite the Flame Within!

Dick Clark
Dick Clark, an acknowledged pop culture icon whose career has influenced the entire entertainment industry, will be a keynote speaker at Phi Theta Kappa's 2004 International Convention.

Familiar to generations as host of television's long-running American Bandstand and Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, Clark has also produced a number of well-known awards shows, including the American Music Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards, the Golden Globe Awards and the Emmy Awards. He is producer of American Dreams, NBC's Emmy-winning series on America in the 1960s.

Clark, affectionately known as "the world's oldest teenager," will address the Third General Session on Friday, April 2. Following his remarks, Clark will respond to questions posed by a panel of Phi Theta Kappa alumni in the entertainment and arts professions.

He also played a significant role in transforming the record business into an international industry. Always a leader and trend-setter, Clark defended rock and roll when the music was criticized, and helped open doors for black entertainers by playing their versions of hit records on American Bandstand. American Bandstand is also responsible for developing a youth audience for television, which considerably impacted the advertising world. A host of such game shows as The $25,000 Pyramid, Clark developed and has hosted the TV Bloopers series. Clark is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Radio Hall of Fame and the Television Hall of Fame.

Linda Ellerbee
Linda Ellerbee, an outspoken journalist, award-winning television producer, best-selling author and one of the most sought-after speakers in America, is also a breast cancer survivor. She will address the Second General Session of the International Convention on Friday morning, April 2. Ellerbee first gained national attention on NBC News Overnight, which pioneered the concept of late-night news. She later established her own production company that focuses on children's programming.

Ellerbee originated, writes and hosts Nick News, the popular and acclaimed children's news program. Nick News received its first Parents Choice Award in 1992. Ellerbee has hosted many news specials to help children cope with such situations as the Oklahoma City bombing, 9/11 and the Polly Klass murder. She has also produced special telecasts to educate children about cancer.

Ellerbee has received numerous awards including three Emmys for her work in children's television. She is author of the best-selling And So It Goes, a humorous look at television news, and Move On, her candid account of her experiences as a working single mother.

Linda Ellerbee was the first to be inaugurated into the Cancer Survivors Hall of Fame. She has written extensively about her cancer experience, stressing the need for laughter, encouragement and appreciation for life.
