Dick Clark
Familiar to generations as host of television's long-running American
Bandstand and Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, Clark has also produced
a number of well-known awards shows, including the American Music Awards,
the Academy of Country Music Awards, the Golden Globe Awards
and the Emmy Awards. He is producer of American Dreams, NBC's Emmy-winning series on
America in the 1960s.
Clark, affectionately known as "the world's oldest teenager," will address
the Third General Session on Friday, April 2. Following his remarks,
Clark will respond to questions posed by a panel of Phi Theta Kappa
alumni in the entertainment and arts professions.
He also played a significant role in transforming the record business
into an international industry. Always a leader and
trend-setter, Clark defended rock and roll when the music was criticized,
and helped open doors for black entertainers by playing their versions of
hit records on American Bandstand. American Bandstand is also responsible
for developing a youth audience for television, which considerably impacted
the advertising world. A host of such game shows as The $25,000 Pyramid, Clark
developed and has hosted the TV Bloopers series. Clark is a member of the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame, the Radio Hall of Fame and the Television Hall of Fame.
