Phi Theta Kappa Voices
Phi Theta Kappa constituents give personal voices to hot topics

Maurice Riddle
President, Ranken Technical College, St. Louis, Missouri
International Convention Experience
"I had the honor and pleasure of attending the International Convention in Anaheim. I enjoyed the entire convention. It allowed me to meet officers from other states and build new relationships. Above all, the educational forums allowed me to learn how other chapters overcome certain obstacles and to share success stories. The 2003 Convention turned me into a Phi Theta Kappa nut!"

Karen Pennington
Member, Carl Albert State College, Poteau, Oklahoma
Membership Benefits
"Like many people, I accepted membership for the scholarship opportunities, but membership means so much more. When talking with job recruiters, I mentioned that I am a Phi Theta Kappan. Suddenly, higher pay, travel and management training were being discussed. The recruiter said, 'Phi Theta Kappa means you are a cut above.' Phi Theta Kappa membership can be the one investment that makes you stand out from all the other candidates applying for that perfect job."

Sue Schantz
Recording Secretary, Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Membership Motivation
"I established an email notification plan that keeps our members, officers and advisors up-to-date on all upcoming events. I email reminders each week of upcoming events and changes in the calendar. This has helped get members involved who otherwise would not be active. As a result, we have seen a rise in attendance at all our events."

Emily Hudson
President, Tallahassee Community College, Tallahassee, Florida
International Convention Experience
"The 2003 International Convention was my first international experience with Phi Theta Kappa. I will never forget walking into the Opening Ceremonies and feeling the rush of excitement while looking at 3,400 individuals who were all there for the same purpose, with the same goals. I had been involved with Phi Theta Kappa for a year prior to the International Convention; however, it was that event where my heart and dedication were given to Phi Theta Kappa. What an appropriate theme for the 2004 Convention - 'Ignite the Fire Within.' The 2003 Convention did that for me. I can't wait to see it happen to the 2004 audience!"
