The Induction Ceremony
Welcoming New Members with Style
Phi Theta Kappa's induction ceremony - a historic rite of passage for new members - should leave a lasting impression on your chapter's new members, and a positive first impression on family, friends and other invited guests. When planning your ceremony, it's important to be prepared, be professional and be prompt!
The basics of an induction ceremony can be found online at www.ptk.org/chapters/resources/members/inductplan.htm or on pages 27-31 in the Chapter Resource Manual. Phi Theta Kappa chapters have added creative twists to make their ceremony even more meaningful. Here are just a few…
- Show the Good as Gold DVD to the audience before the ceremony begins.
- Dim the lights before inductees enter with lighted candles.
- Read brief bios about the inductees.
- Invite new members to say a few words of gratitude to family members and faculty in the audience.
- Ask faculty to wear academic gowns.
- Invite your college president or dean to present the members with a stole and tassel.
- Announce the regional and/or international awards received by the chapter.
- Host a sit-down dinner following the induction and recognize inductees' favorite teachers.
