Follow the Walk of Stars - Five Stars - for Chapter Success

Just as Hollywood has its Walk of Stars, immortalizing generations of movie legends, Phi Theta Kappa chapters and regions have their own pathway to the stars: The Five Star Chapter Development Program.

The Five Star Program was designed to give chapters a thorough grounding in Phi Theta Kappa programs, and the Five Star Program Guide is their blueprint for success. Step-by-step requirements ensure that chapters can participate at any of the five levels and achieve recognition locally, regionally and internationally.

Motivate Members by Showcasing Success

Sometimes a small change makes a difference in achieving Five Star success.

The chapter at East Central Community College in Mississippi has participated in the Five Star Chapter Development Program since 1993. The 2003-04 chapter leaders, when planning their campaign to maintain their Five Star status, knew the importance of motivation. By improving their display of Five Star certificates, the chapter left a visible legacy of Five Star success that will inspire not only current but future members.

"We had our Five Star certificates placed in different locations with different size frames and the overall effect did not look appealing," said Christy Ferguson, chapter advisor. When the chapter was given the use of a room to display all their Phi Theta Kappa awards, the officers and advisor took advantage of the opportunity to spotlight the chapter's Five Star achievements.

"We discussed having the Five Star awards framed together in a 16" x 60" frame," said Ferguson. "We are preparing to be a Five Star chapter for the next ten or more years. I think that not only does it look nice, but it will motivate the new officers to reach Five Star status."

"It occurred to me when I recently visited the chapter and saw how they had framed and displayed the Five Star Program certificates, that the officers of 1993 laid a foundation. That foundation is still being built upon as today's officers plan events in order to continue the legacy of success in the Five Star Chapter Development Program," said Director of Regional Programs Kathy Hayes.

Be sure that your chapter's successes are immortalized, just like movie legends, by keeping your Five Star Certificates prominently displayed on your campus.
