Reach the Top with Officer Benefits and Resources
Being elected to chapter office in Phi Theta Kappa is the start of an incredible journey. Once you are reported to Phi Theta Kappa Headquarters as a chapter officer, a new array of benefits and resources becomes available to you. Take full advantage of your officer resources as you lead your chapter to the peak of success!
Starting Smart
Start your officer term off right when you announce your new position and give
your chapter some publicity with the Chapter Officer Press Release. Just visit
Get Connected at http://getconnected.ptk.org/ and select the press release. You will need to provide a contact email address for your local
newspaper. Chuck Taylor, Chapter President at Cuyamaca College in California,
encourages officers to take advantage of the recognition offered by the press release.
In turn, he says, "Having an incentive that benefits our team members individually helps
build our chapter."
News You Can Use
When it comes to getting the most up-to-date news and programs information,
Vice President of Fellowship Casta Garcia turns to the Chapter Officer eNewsletter.
Casta, a member at Borough of Manhattan Community College
in New York uses the eNewsletter because it "provides officers with new ideas and is
personally directed at developing leadership skills." She says that the Chapter Officer
eNewsletter has been valuable in helping her stay in tune with the Phi Theta Kappa
Community.
The quarterly Golden Key Newsletter, sent free of charge to advisors, regional and chapter officers, also provides programs updates and implementation strategies, leadership development ideas and scholarship information.
Resources at the Ready
If you are a chapter president, you will automatically receive the printed Chapter
Resource Packet, containing the 2004-06 Chapter Resource Manual, Program Guide,
Membership Benefits and Scholarship Guide, Five Star Chapter Development Program
Guide, Hallmark Awards Brochure and Recognitions catalog. The Chapter Resource
Manual is available for all officers to view or print online at
www.ptk.org/chapters/resources, and you can find complete information on all Phi Theta Kappa
programs at the Society's main website,
www.ptk.org.
Make an Online Connection
Connect with other chapter officers for Phi Theta Kappa discussion, ideas and
peer advice at the online Chapter Officer Conference Center,
http://forums.ptk.org/~chapoff. Tracey Hagee, Chapter President at
Front Range Community College in
Colorado, agrees that the Conference Center "is an outstanding place for officers
world-wide to share ideas, troubleshoot problems, plan for the future, and get to
know one another."
The Local Advantage
Finally, be sure to ask your advisor for information on benefits exclusive to your chapter.
Chapter President Brandi Hereford enjoys the tuition assistance that her
chapter at Linn-Benton Community College in Oregon provides
its chapter officers. Brandi found that "the tuition grants have been a great benefit for
our officers. It helps with officer dedication and is a way for our school to show their
appreciation to our team for their year of hard work."
