Blues Club
An example of a successful study in popular culture includes the Phi Theta Kappa chapter at Itawamba Community College in Mississippi where members were interested in learning more about the history of blues music, how it both impacted and reflected life in the Mississippi Delta, and how it has influenced popular music and culture. The chapter organized a trip to the Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival, where they spoke with blues musician Big Bill Morganfield, son of the great Muddy Waters; Steve Johnson, grandson of the legendary Robert Johnson; and actor Morgan Freeman. The chapter is now creating a documentary of their findings, which they plan to share with their college campus and the greater Phi Theta Kappa community.
