Society Launches New Visibility Campaign this Fall

Chapter Resource DVD
Phi Theta Kappa’s first collection of recruitment and program materials has been sent to all advisors and regional officers. Its eight tracks contain:

Track One: An introduction to the DVD

Track Two: Phi Theta Kappa’s new Recruitment Video, a professional production, approximately eight minutes in length, starring members, advisors and alumni, who tell the Phi Theta Kappa story in their own words, and cite the role the Honor Society has played in their education and in their lives. While the video’s primary target audience is prospective members, it is also ideal for showing at induction ceremonies, faculty development programs, informational meetings with college administrators and community events.

Track Three: A digital version of Phi Theta Kappa’s new Member Benefits PowerPoint® presentation, to be used at orientations for prospective members. This presentation ensures that chapters have the most current information about membership benefits. The actual PowerPoint® version, which may be customized for chapter use, is available on the Society website, www.ptk.org.

Track Four: A brief message of invitation from Executive Director Risley to eligible members, which may be used at prospective member orientations, especially when a campus administrator is unable to be present.

Track Five: The lyrics and two renditions of the Phi Theta Kappa Song suitable for playing at Induction Ceremonies or other formal Society events. Chapters may wish to project the words of the Phi Theta Kappa Song on a screen to encourage audience participation in the singing of the traditional song.

Track Six: International Convention Highlights: a video showcase of the Convention experience. Use this resource to prepare chapter members to attend, and to possibly secure administrative and financial support. Selected highlights from the Society’s three most recent International Conventions are featured.

Track Seven: Honors Satellite Seminar Series Highlights: video excerpts to illustrate to members and administrators how the series can be used to enhance honors education and facilitate community outreach.

Track Eight: The Project Graduation Promotional Video, explaining the mission and impact of Phi Theta Kappa’s newest community service initiative.

Track Nine “Bonus”: “Good as Gold,” original song and vocal performance by Phi Theta Kappa alumna Kim Char Meredith of Hawaii.

“For the first time ever, this DVD helps us put into the hands of our chapter leaders, the media tools they need to recruit new members and even more importantly, to encourage participation in programs,” said Society Associate Director Mike Watson. “The DVD format allows us to provide all these resources in one convenient package.

“The video and digital technology will equip our advisors and officers with more professional resources to help them inform all constituencies - prospective members, current members, college faculty and administration - about Phi Theta Kappa’s many membership benefits and programs,” Watson explained.

“Good as Gold” Posters
Three new professionally designed posters depict several of the most valued membership benefits: 1) academic recognition through the Golden Key Membership Pin, 2) the privilege of wearing the Golden Commencement Stole and Tassel, and 3) the $35 million in transfer scholarships exclusively available to Society members. In the initial introductory mailing, chapters received three copies of each of the three posters, for a total of nine posters.

“Good as Gold” Membership Benefits Brochure
A new professionally designed brochure, which articulates the benefits of membership to eligible students, will also be made available to chapters. Mailing a brochure and a letter of invitation signed by the college president to students eligible for membership in Phi Theta Kappa has proved to be a successful recruiting strategy for most chapters. The new brochures were delivered in bulk quantities to all chapters in September, at no charge.

PowerPoint® Presentation Script
The printed script may be used with the digital version of the PowerPoint® presentation, included on the Resource DVD, and with the downloadable PowerPoint® Version, which chapters may customize by adding local information.

Materials Also Available at WWW.PTK.ORG
All “Good as Gold” materials (including the posters, orientation PowerPoint® presentation and script and Chapter Resource DVD) are also available as a convenient download from the Society’s website, www.ptk.org or to order from the Recognitions Department at 800.946.9996. A VHS version of the Society’s new video will also be available for purchase online.

“Our Honor Society has evolved into an organization that sets the standard for acknowledging scholastic achievement and providing life-changing opportunities to deserving scholars at two-year institutions,” Risley said. “The new visibility campaign makes a dynamic statement, reflecting our members’ accomplishments, contributions and tremendous potential, in the classroom, in their communities and in their future careers. Phi Theta Kappa and our members truly are ‘Good as Gold.’”
