What Is Your Five Star College Project?

We asked chapter officers to share what their chapters are doing to fulfill the Level Five, Activity One requirement of the Five Star Chapter Development Program - better known as the College Project!

"We do a recycling project on campus to benefit our college's Scholarship Foundation. My advice is to arrange a meeting with the college president, vice president on your campus, or dean in charge of Phi Theta Kappa for your campus and just talk with them and brainstorm. You might be surprised!"

Tracey Hagee, Chapter President
Front Range Community College, Fort Collins, Colorado

“The college project is great because our chapter gets to meet with our college president and see what we can do to help our fellow students and faculty members. This year, being so politically on edge, we are working with the new voter awareness project to increase the number of 18 to 24-year-olds at the polls this November.  It is a non-partisan way to get politically involved and truly make a difference.”

Alanna Stewart-Bell, Vice President of Fellowship
Truckee Meadows Community College, Reno, Nevada

Other ways chapters are completing the College Project include:

  • Subscribing to Phi Theta Kappa's Honors Satellite Seminar Series and inviting high school honor students to attend. The seminar series gives the college great exposure while showcasing Phi Theta Kappa’s Honors Study Topic.
  • Sponsoring the Community College Readership Program on campus to provide free newspapers for students. This program helps the college emphasize civic engagement through newspaper readership, and provides faculty a great resource for class assignments.
  • Organizing Project Graduation to collect canned goods and books during the college's commencement ceremony for donation to a local charity. This project is an ideal way for colleges to give back to their communities.
