Pinnacle Awards

Earn Scholarships & Recognition in the Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program

The 2004 Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program encourages chapters and regions to effectively communicate the benefits of membership to all eligible students. Success in the program is measured by the number of members reported to Phi Theta Kappa Headquarters from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2004.

Participating chapters and regions may earn a variety of recognition, including congratulatory letters, certificates of accomplishment, cash scholarships and trophies. In 2003, over $70,000 in Pinnacle Scholarships was distributed to chapters and regions meeting their membership goals.

Chapters and regions must enroll annually to be eligible. Enroll your chapter online at www.ptk.org/pinnacle/chapennform.htm, and monitor your chapter and region's progress at www.ptk.org/pinnacle/progress.

Best Practices for Membership Recruitment

Participants in the "Good as Gold" membership recruitment Educational Forum at the 2004 International Convention developed the following list of best practices for recruiting new members. Chapter advisor Jeb Blackburn and members Elliott "Jersey" Clayton, Emily Hudson, and Chris Presley at Tallahassee Community College in Florida facilitated the "Good as Gold" forum.

  • Personalize invitations through phone calls, emails and letters.
  • Contact parents of eligible students.
  • Focus on the fun of fellowship; invite potential members to a "members-only" special event.
  • Increase campus visibility through banners, bulletin boards, signs, brochures and posters.
  • Sponsor campus events, like a Back to School Bash, and attend all campus activities.
  • Offer incentives at orientation, such as door prizes and local transfer scholarship information.
  • Use media such as a chapter website, the Good as Gold video and PowerPoint presentation, and the college newspaper and radio station.
  • For multiple-campus chapters, have advisors and/or officers available at each campus and alternate meeting locations.
  • Enhance the chapter's image by holding college fairs and inviting area high school honor students.
