Shoot for the Stars: Five Star Chapter Development Program

Get the most out of your Phi Theta Kappa experience by participating in the Five Star Chapter Development Program. Each level in the program takes chapter officers and members to the next stage of involvement.

Level one emphasizes chapter organization, as well as advisor, officer and member orientations.

Level two requires more formal planning and participation on the college campus and in the community by involving members in the Honors Study Topic and the International Service Program.

In the third level of the Five Star Program, chapters progress in Phi Theta Kappa programs implementation, and complete a College Project designed to fulfill a need on campus. Implementing a College Project can help chapters give back to their college and gain administrative support.

In level four chapters become active in the region. By attending a regional meeting and assuming a regional leadership role, chapters gain a support system beyond the local chapter, enabling them to make a difference on a broader scope.

When chapters achieve the fifth level by participating in international events, they are considered a top functioning chapter, fully immersed in Phi Theta Kappa programs providing leadership opportunities for members and service to the college, community and beyond.

Chapter members, officers and advisors should meet early in the year to set their goals, and begin planning activities. The 2007 program timeline is January 1 to December 31; Chapter Update Forms are due April 30, September 30 & November 30, 2007. The Final Update Form should be completed by February 1, 2008.

Chapters will receive local recognition for the level they achieve in the form of a letter sent to the college president. Participating chapters are also recognized with a certificate at a regional meeting and are featured in the Regions Directory on the Phi Theta Kappa website.
