Explore Power through the Newspaper!

Phi Theta Kappa and USA TODAY challenge members and chapters to read the newspaper daily and conduct a Case Study based on the exploration of issues related to the global dynamics of power.

Participation in the Honors Case Study Challenge encourages Phi Theta Kappa members to develop the habit of reading the newspaper in order to stay abreast of current news and events. It also provides an avenue through which chapters and members may implement the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Study Topic, Gold, Gods, and Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power. The four winning entries will receive a $500 scholarship and recognition on stage at the 2007 International Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Winning entries also will be posted on the USA TODAY Collegiate Academic website.

Read the print edition of the USA TODAY and look for articles on any subject related to the Honors Study Topic, Gold, Gods, and Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power. After selecting 4-5 articles, compose a one-page (500 words) Case Study summary explaining how the topic was chosen and why it is important, write an essay (200 words) on future implications of the Case Study topic, pose 3-5 discussion questions, and suggest up to 6 resources for additional study. Submit your entry via email using the template provided online.

The Challenge ends March 9, 2007, so begin your Case Study now! Visit the website at www.ptk.org/honors/casechall or contact Honors Programs Coordinator Tria Cohen at 601.984.3515 for more information.
