Hallmark Hysteria:
Putting the Pieces Together

IF: You determine that one cover sheet is enough and that your advisor doesn’t really need to sign it,

THEN: Our Hallmark judges will let out a sigh of regret as they place your entry into the “disqualified” bin. Each entry must have a cover sheet signed by your advisor in order to qualify for judging.

IF: You get into a rush and just stuff the materials you have into a package and send it,

THEN: It may be missing vital information, rendering your entry hopeless. Entries that do not include the required elements (such as the essay and chronological list) will be disqualified.

IF: You send in only one copy of your entry,

THEN: You’re only halfway there! You must submit TWO complete copies of each award entry.

IF: You send each entry separately as you finish them,

THEN: We will receive parts of your entries at various times, thoroughly confusing the Hallmark judges, who will have to disqualify additional materials. Send all entries in one package (including yearbook pre-registrations). Additional materials mailed under separate cover will not be included in the judging process.

IF: You submit your entries in a beautifully decorated binder or folder,

THEN: The judges will say, “Hey, nice folder!” but would much prefer that you assemble the contents for each award entry with a staple, paper clip or rubber band. Staples have proven to work best. Uniform assembly ensures uniform judging of entries.

IF: You drop your entry into the mail on February 22 and rest at ease because it was postmarked on the deadline,

THEN: You will be very disappointed (as will the Hallmark judges) when your entry is disqualified for late arrival. All entries must be RECEIVED at Headquarters by February 22, 2002.
