Announcing ... The Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program

In 1999, Phi Theta Kappa introduced the Journey Challenge, an initiative that called on chapters to review and enhance their membership recruitment, to ensure that all prospective inductees were fully informed about the benefits of Society membership. The first Journey Challenge Program was highly successful, and a second Challenge was issued in 2000. Chapter and regional success in meeting the Journey Challenge was measured by increases in induction numbers.

In the new year of 2001, Phi Theta Kappa is introducing a new and permanent membership enhancement program that rewards both chapters and regions with scholarship stipends, in recognition of their success in recruitment of new members, as measured by increases in membership. Chapters and regions may establish their own procedures for determining how The Pinnacle Scholarship Awards will be distributed.

Guidelines for the new program are as follows:

In 2001 and in each subsequent year, chapters and regions will be challenged to increase membership by 10 percent over the preceding year.

Dates for inducting and reporting new members for The Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program will be January 1 - December 31 of each year. Members must be inducted and reported within this time period to be counted.

Chapters and regions may enroll in The Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program online at pinnacle@ptk.org or by returning to Headquarters the completed Enrollment Form included in The Pinnacle Award Program brochure enclosed with this newsletter.

Either the chapter’s advisors or the chapter’s officers may enroll the chapter in The Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program. Either the regional coordinator or the region’s officers may enroll the region in The Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program. Chapters and regions may monitor their progress on the web at www.ptk.org/pinnacle/.

Chapters successfully increasing membership by 10 percent will receive The Pinnacle Scholarship Award Certificate for Chapters, to be presented at their Regional Convention, and a $100 Pinnacle Scholarship Award, to be used at the chapter’s discretion.

Chapters that induct 90 percent or more of eligible students between January 1 and December 31, 2001, will also receive a Pinnacle Scholarship. Chapters must enroll in the program to receive the award.

Regions successfully increasing membership by 10 percent will receive The Pinnacle Scholarship Award Certificate for Regions, to be presented at the International Convention, and a $500 Pinnacle Scholarship Award, to be used at the region’s discretion.
