On November 2, Jennifer Burkhardt, Phi Theta Kappa chapter president at Wilbur Wright College in Chicago, Illinois, received the prestigious Lincoln Academy of Illinois Student Laureate Award. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in the areas of leadership and service, and carries a $150 stipend. It is given to many four-year college students throughout the state, but only to one two-year college student who is selected from 39 community college districts. “I was in shock at winning this award,” said Burkhardt, “However, this proves the impact that community college students and Phi Theta Kappa members are making in their communities.” Illinois Governor and Mrs. George Ryan hosted a luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion, where they recognized the recipients with a medallion and certificate.
