The Journey Upcoming Events Chapters Invited to Participate in Satellite Town Meeting on Reading The U.S. Department of Education has invited Phi Theta Kappa chapters to participate in a free, live, interactive teleconference about how successful schools are improving the teaching of reading. The Satellite Town Meeting, entitled "Teaching Reading: Success Stories in School," will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 1999, from 8:00 - 9:00 pm (EST). Hosted by U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley, the meeting will cover important issues, including what roles tutors, families and communities play in improving the teaching of reading. The program is an excellent opportunity for chapters to promote the current International Service Program, the America Reads Challenge, while networking with others in their communities who share a commitment to children and reading. Participating chapters are encouraged to invite parents, teachers, school administrators, business leaders, community activists and others to their teleconference site. To register and receive more information, including the satellite coordinates needed to "downlink" the program, call 1.800.USA.LEARN (1.800.872.5327).
