...Phi Theta Kappa Alumni The Journey Continues ... Page 2. Individually and collectively, Phi Theta Kappa alumni are providing services that truly are making a difference in supporting a "new generation" of Phi Theta Kappans on their own membership journey: Through Scholarships. The alumni and alumni associations of the Middle States Region have established a Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship. Theta of Mississippi Alumni, through dues and gifts to their college's foundation, fund expenses for Pearl River Community College members to attend regional and international meetings. Through Advocacy. Upon learning of financial difficulties at his former college, Christian Hill contacted "every legislative office in the State of Colorado"stressing the significant role his community college education and Phi Theta Kappa experience played in his graduate studies in Environmental Law. Through Voluntarism. Lilia Lee, a national airline ticket agent, assists Kingwood College's chapter in Kingwood, Texas, and the Texas Region with securing the best possible airfares to attend regional and international events or fly in speakers for local or regional meetings. The Nevada/California Alumni Association sponsored a "Chapter Doctor Booth" and College Fair during their recent Regional Convention. Shirley Scarbrough and Bryan Westfall serve on the Board of Directors for the All-Missouri Academic Team. Through Public Relations. The Indiana Regional Alumni Association is planning a Fall 1998 College Fair for high school students, promoting excellence in education, two-year and four-year colleges statewide, and Phi Theta Kappa. "Phi Theta Kappa alumni involvement has given all of us that love Phi Theta Kappa a chance to continue to serve and give back to the Society that means so much to us; an organization that has helped us on our journey," says Ann Morris, a Society alumna from Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Mississippi. "The opportunities we can help provide for students will reward us in small or in large measure in the future. I feel whatever I can give to foster the ideals Phi Theta Kappa stands for is but a small expression of appreciation for the many years of pleasure I've received." If your Phi Theta Kappa experience has enhanced your life, remember you now have the unique opportunity as an alumnus to help others enjoy that same wonderful experience of membership. "My journey as a Phi Theta Kappan has been filled with numerous opportunities for growth and development. I look forward to continuing my personal journey as an alumnus and helping to support the mission and priorities of Phi Theta Kappa," reports Cassius Johnson, 1997-98 International President. "I hope my future successes will benefit the Society for many years to come and perhaps help other Phi Theta Kappans on their own journeys of growth and development."
