1999 Campaign Enhancements

Pre-Convention Campaigning

To maintain as much equity, objectivity and fairness in the campaign process, communication about a member's candidacy prior to the International Convention is STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. Candidates (or any representative of the candidates) are discouraged from distributing any campaign materials, letters, e-mail messages, etc. prior to the Convention. Phi Theta Kappa Headquarters will no longer "police" pre-Convention campaigning; however, candidates' disregard for the recommendations will most likely tarnish their campaign.

Campaign rules and regulations will be STRICTLY enforced at the International Convention, beginning with the Candidate Orientation on Wednesday, April 28.

Newsletters/Websites
Candidates are allowed to "announce" their candidacy in publications such as chapter and regional newsletters as well as on chapter and/or regional web sites.

On Monday, April 5, 1999, Phi Theta Kappa Headquarters will post photos and brief biographical information of each candidate on our official website: www.ptk.org

Campaign Managers
Campaign managers are now invited to attend the Candidate Orientation and the Caucus videotaping. However, their attendance is not mandatory.

Campaign Distributable Items
Candidates will be able to distribute their campaign materials during designated times in the Marketplace on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. In the past, candidates were only allowed to distribute items during the Political Rally on Thursday evening. However, distribution is still restricted to the designated times and items may only be distributed from the candidate's booth.
