Has Your Chapter Registered for Pinnacle?

The Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program provides chapters with recognition and a $100 scholarship for increasing their membership by 10 percent or more over the preceding year. To be eligible for the scholarship, chapters must enroll in the program at www.ptk.org/pinnacle/chapennform.htm. Full details about the program are also available at www.ptk.org/pinnacle/.

A total of 560 chapters reached their Pinnacle goals for 2002 and received their $100 checks earlier this year. Here's how some chapters are spending their bounties and strategizing to meet the Pinnacle again this year:

"Our Pinnacle Scholarship was used to pay membership dues for two deserving new members who otherwise would not have been able to pay the fees to join. We have succeeded in the Pinnacle Program by making sure we explain to eligible students how prestigious membership is. We follow up and personally contact students who might miss the orientation meeting. We want to have each student really be aware of the opportunity they are accepting or declining."

Martha Hedgepeth, Advisor
Louisburg College
Louisburg, North Carolina
2003 Pinnacle Goal: 31 members

"We used the Pinnacle money for our Phi Theta Kappa scholarship. To meet the challenge, we not only send out letters to eligible students, but also have public service announcements over the campus radio; set up tables in the evening to make sure our night population knows we care about their academic achievements; and promote our activities in both the campus newspaper and the staff paper. I think our best recruitment tool is that we put a face on Phi Theta Kappa. Students and staff know our officers and our officers are involved in all campus activities."
Kathleen T. Emery, Advisor
Montgomery County Community College
Blue Bell, Pennsylvania
2003 Pinnacle Goal: 324 members

"Our chapter is using the money to emphasize the visibility of Phi Theta Kappa on campus by purchasing medallions to wear at induction ceremonies, graduation, etc. We have already begun to share more information with new students and existing students through flyers, orientations and other school functions."
Nancy Donohue-Berthiaume, Advisor
Quinsigamond Community College
Worcester, Massachusetts
2003 Pinnacle Goal: 121 members
