Q. Satellite Seminar Series...What's That?
A. The Satellite
Seminar Series is a series of five interactive seminars that focus on
the 2002-04 Honors Study Topic, "Dimensions and Directions of Health:
Choices in the Maze." The seminars are presented by experts in various
health-related fields, who encourage audience participation through Q&A.
Q. Where is it?
A. The beauty of the Satellite Seminar Series is that it is wherever
you are! The seminars are broadcast live via C-band and Ku-band satellites,
so that colleges across the nation can participate from their own auditoriums.
Q. When is it?
A. The seminars will be broadcast at 6:30 pm Central time (7:30
pm Eastern, 5:30 pm Mountain, and 4:30 pm Pacific) on the following Tuesday
evenings: September 30, October 14, October 28, November 4, and November
18.
Q. How does it
work?
A. Despite the seemingly complicated sound of it, participation
in the Satellite Seminar Series is really very simple! Just follow these
five easy steps.
- Step 1: Designate someone from your college, probably your
chapter advisor, to be the Site Coordinator, also referred to as the
Contact Person.
- Step 2: The Site Coordinator should register your college
by submitting an Institutional Subscription Agreement form, which is
available online at www.ptk.org/nchcss/agreement.htm.
- Step 3: Two months prior to the first seminar, the Site Coordinator
will receive information about promoting the Series on campus. Begin
your promotion.
- Step 4: A few days before each seminar, the Site Coordinator
will receive the coordinates for the satellite feed. Set up the satellite
receiver.
- Step 5: Come and enjoy the show!
Q. Why should we
participate?
A. For many reasons! Here are a few:
- It is a tremendous educational opportunity. The Satellite Seminar Series
provides access to top-quality speakers, who are leaders in their fields
of study.
- It is a bargain. Your college would pay thousands of dollars
to host just one of these speakers on campus, yet you can hear them all
speak for only $350.
- It is a great way to interact with your community.
Make the Series available to the community through Public Service Announcements
in your local paper and on local radio stations.
- It is an avenue for
recruitment. Your college can use the Series to recruit high school students
who are interested in an educational experience that reaches beyond the
classroom.
