Team Building Begins With You!

There are several different roles that can be assigned within the chapter to ensure smooth operation. Often times, those who are not elected officers take on these roles. Check out these characteristic role types and figure out which role fits you or individual members in your chapter...

Task Roles:

  • Summarizer: Encourages members to reach decisions and move on
  • Initiator: Starts chapter projects, meetings, etc.
  • Seeker: Seeks facts and information to ensure good achievable decisions
  • Orienter: Keeps the chapter on track for a specified goal
  • Recorder: Records the actions of the chapter
  • Spokesperson: Relays the chapter’s general opinion to outsiders

 

Relationship Roles:

  • Encourager: Shows support for other members’ views and ideas
  • Gatekeeper: Facilitates discussion to ensure clear communication of all
  • Negotiator: Seeks consensus and mutual agreement among all members
  • Listener: Intently listens to all views and opinions, even when in disagreement
