What does an Alumni Association do?
Here are some shining examples of how alumni can play a critical role in Phi Theta Kappa:

The New York Regional Alumni Association, Zeta of New York, received the 2001 Alumni Association Award of Merit. The members of this award-winning alumni association wrote letters of recommendation for Phi Theta Kappans to accompany their transfer applications to senior institutions and assisted them with reviewing and critiquing their transfer applications and essays. They also played a big role in fundraising for scholarships, including a scholarship for the New York Region's Distinguished Member and the region's Distinguished Regional Officer. Their fundraising efforts were also a part of the region's donation to the "Leaders of Promise" scholarship fund. To honor New York Alumni, they created a "Hall of Honor" to recognize long-term commitment to the organization, and presented the award to four of their members.

San Juan College's Alpha Mu Sigma Alumni Association in New Mexico has provided speakers for the two-year chapter's New Member Orientation and for the Aztec High School Key Club. They also assisted the Alpha Mu Sigma Chapter in matching their donations of bottled water for the Los Alamos and the Mesa Verde fires.

The Texas Tech University Alumni Association, Delta of Texas, focuses on easing the transitioning process for transfer students and creating a communication network with two-year chapters. They also encourage the involvement of Phi Theta Kappa transfer students by sending them an invitation in the fall to attend alumni functions and a monthly newsletter. Besides providing a constant communication network with their new transfer students, the organization also provides approximately 200 scholarships that encourage involvement to new and current members of Texas Tech.

The Indiana Alumni Association coordinated and hosted their first "Leaders of Promise Day," featuring eight hours of activities for alumni and advisors to help current members learn to successfully develop fundraising, service, and innovative education programs with their chapters. To further strengthen chapters in their region, the Alumni Association also paid $5 of the cost of each Chapter Resource Packet to make them more affordable for chapter officers.

The Emporia State University Alumni Association made a strong showing at the 2001 Kansas Regional Convention, with their vice president, Amanda Morgan, serving as a featured speaker on a Leadership Panel Discussion. They also held two main events for their alumni this year, a bowling night in the fall and a fellowship dinner in the spring. These events were opportunities for their alumni to get together and just relax with other transfer students with common concerns and interests.
