Conquering Illiteracy and Hunger... One Can and ONE Book at a Time

Ten Easy Steps To Project Graduation Success!

1. Ask your college officials/administrators for permission to implement Project Graduation on your campus.

2. Appoint a chapter contact for Project Graduation to oversee implementation. Begin recruiting volunteers to assist with advertising, collection agencies and delivery.

3. Decide which agencies in your community will receive the donations of canned goods and books. You will probably need to contact more than one agency depending on their needs.

4. Develop a Plan! Make a timeline for all Project Graduation events, including time to utilize materials on www.projectgraduation.org, post flyers on campus, write and distribute press releases, contact your local media for press during graduation, contact collection agencies, etc.

5. Invite other campus organizations, faculty and staff to help your chapter promote Project Graduation on campus.

6. Coordinate with your college’s administration and graduation committee to have Project Graduation flyers inserted into their mailings to graduating students. Publicize the program on campus bulletin boards, brochure racks, the student newspaper, faculty newsletter and the school radio and television stations.

7. Contact the education editor at your local newspaper, the assignment editor at your local television station(s) and the news director at your local radio station(s) with a Project Graduation news release.

8. Plan strategic drop-off sites at the graduation ceremony in highly visible areas. Also include a drop-off site for faculty and staff. Remember the weather — always have a rainy day plan!

9. Have a final meeting the day before graduation so everyone knows his or her responsibilities. Possible jobs include manning the donation box, taking photos of the event for publicity, taking donations to the receiving agencies, talking to area reporters and making sure everyone is having a good time!

10. Finally, report your results! Watch the web for the online success story form, and send photos and newspaper clippings to Phi Theta Kappa Headquarters, c/o Project Graduation, 1625 Eastover Drive, Jackson, MS 39211.
