Laura Dupree, former International Southern Vice President and Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisor from North Harris College in Houston, Texas, recently visited Poland through “Project Poland,” a program sponsored by her chapter. In conjunction with her visit, North Harris College chapter members focused on the Polish culture as part of their study of the Society’s Honors Study Topic, “Customs, Traditions and Celebrations: The Human Drive for Community.” Members also had the opportunity to meet former President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Leach Walesa. Dupree said of her visit, “I received an invitation to speak at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology by the University of Bialystok in northeast Poland about early childhood education and development. Knowing lives will be forever changed from our commitment to young children is the greatest reward. We may never know the full extent of our work, but one thing is for sure: we have all emerged stronger individuals and in exchange developed lifelong relationships with common goals,” added Dupree.
