As a new chapter officer, have you ever wished for a guide that told you step by step how to implement Society programs and create a successful chapter? Surprise! Your wish has been granted with the Five Star Chapter Development Program. “Participating in the Five Star Program gives our chapter focus and direction for planning activities,” said advisor Shirley Nelson of her five star chapter at Chattanooga State Technical Community College in Chattanooga, Tennessee. “Our successes have given us more visibility on campus, fueling our continued participation.” For chapters who aspire to the Five Star Level, a College Project is required. The College Project is an activity or series of activities that your college president has asked the chapter to do after meeting with chapter leaders. The object of the College Project is to create or sustain a supportive relationship between the chapter and the college. Sample college projects include helping with college recruitment, setting up a campus recycling program or providing clerical assistance to faculty and staff members. The college president’s signature is required for the College Project Form, signifying the successful completion of the project. For more information about the Five Star Program and what it can do for your chapter, contact Director of Regional Programs Kathy Hayes at 601.984.3562.
