The Theta Chi Chapter of Pensacola Junior College in Pensacola, Florida, has launched a community service project that aims to provide 50,000 hours of mentoring to children as well as to collect 2,000 cans of food, 2,000 children's books and 1,000 pints of blood for residents of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. The chapter leaders plan to unite the 40-plus student organizations on Pensacola's three campuses to help them reach their goal over a 50-week period. The chapter, working in conjunction with Pensacola's Promise, initiated the project after learning area schools needed more than 200 additional mentors. "We are not just whiz kids," said chapter president Sandra Prather of her fellow members' willingness to serve. "We want to combine education with community involvement."
