Regions Encouraged to Build Community with Honors Study Topic

This year’s Honors Study Topic, “Customs, Traditions and Celebrations: The Human Drive for Community,” lends itself well to inter-regional activities. In a true spirit of Phi Theta Kappa community, chapters are joining together to design regional Honors Study Topic projects, and regions are linking with other regions in some very innovative ways.

Members from the Kentucky and Virginia Regions have attended the second annual reunion of the Hatfields and McCoys and are making a year-long study of the historic feud.

The Tennessee and Oklahoma/Arkansas Regions will research and share information concerning the historic Trail of Tears, including attending a Native American celebration that will take place at one of the sites where the trail began in 1838.

Several regions on the East Coast, beginning with Virginia and Tennessee will explore the battles and the rebuilding of communities after the Civil War.

The New Mexico and Virginia Regions will be sharing information on each of their local Native American histories.

JOIN THE FUN! Contact one of these regions, or start your own project with a sister, neighboring or distant region. For contact information, visit the online Phi Theta Kappa Regions Directory at www.ptk.org/regions/regions_dir.htm.
