From the north to the south, and all points in between, Phi Theta Kappa regions used the summer months to plan projects and activities that embrace the 2002-04 International Service Program, “Conquering Cancer” and the 2002-04 Honors Study Topic, “Dimensions and Directions of Health: Choices in the Maze.” Middle States The Middle States Region has announced its Conquering Cancer Coalition (3C) initiative, made possible by a generous gift from Toys “R” Us. The project was launched in June during the annual Middle States Regional Officers Academy. The Phi Theta Kappa chapter at Bergen Community College in Paramus, New Jersey, received 2,500 new, black baseball caps to be distributed to children being treated for cancer. To be part of the Coalition, chapters agree to visit at least one children’s cancer ward where they may distribute the caps. Chapters in the region may request as many as 50 hats. Each chapter must report where they visited and supply a photograph of their visit for a Coalition web page on the Middle States Regional website at www.ptkms.org. Requests for hats should be made to Brian Verkay at brian.verkay@ptk.org. Regional Officers now have a primary contact person at Phi Theta Kappa International Headquarters. For assistance, regional officers should contact Regional Programs Coordinator Faye Christian at faye.christian@ptk.org or 601.984.3530.
