2002 Honors Satellite Seminars
Offer Outstanding Opportunities for Provocative Discussions on Health-Related Topics

by Nell Ewing

Did you know:

  • Ancient tribal ways and philosophies are helping a sometimes-floundering modern medical system return to its original mission of healing?

  • Environmental health research could hold the key to the factors that produce cancer, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases?

  • In the 1920s, 30 states practiced legal sterilization of persons considered genetically unfit?

  • The soaring global AIDS epidemic could affect 200 million persons by the year 2030?

  • The most devastating drug is not necessarily marijuana, tobacco or alcohol, but the one you like the best?

That’s just a sampling of the vital information and topics for discussion that will emerge from Phi Theta Kappa’s 2002 Honors Satellite Seminar Series, “Dimensions and Directions of Health: Choices in the Maze”- Phi Theta Kappa’s 2002-04 Honors Study Topic.

Each of the five Satellite Seminars will feature a notable leader in a health field facilitating a discussion in specific areas of expertise. Satellite viewers may call in with questions during the telecasts. Chapters are encouraged to make the Satellite Series an integral part of their campus honors programming, and use the series as an opportunity to reach out to the campus, the area high schools and the community. Subscribing institutions will receive a Planning Packet that includes ideas for incorporating the honors satellite series into campus honors programs, using the series as a public relations vehicle, and planning a post-Seminar discussion group.

Institutions with Phi Theta Kappa chapters may still subscribe to the 2002 Satellite Seminar Series by taking advantage of the extended subscription deadline of September 20, and the special price of $425.

Online enrollment is available at www.ptk.org/nchcss/agreement.htm. Persons may also contact Executive Assistant Susan Booth, susan.booth@ptk.org or 601.984.3521 for subscription forms or information.
